Exciting family visits to Montréal World's Fair awakened young Hélia (Marie-Hélène Mondou) to the beauty of different cultures expressing themselves through movement; but it's "La danse du ventre" that got her totally mesmerized. She grew up reading a lot, playing piano and performing in theater plays which led her to a successful career in theater, as an actor, a drama teacher and school owner/director. Extensive stays and travels along the Mediterranean Sea rekindled her love for the Arabic culture and music and shaped what was becoming her personal style of belly dance. She is thankful to so many wonderful teachers! Hélia also studied with the world's leaders of Somatic Education at the department of Dance of the University of Québec. Her Master research explored the application of somatic education to the teaching of belly dance. She moved to Fort Pierce to reunite with her soulmate with whom she sings and plays the harp. She performed hundreds of times, dance, music and theater, in several countries and has been offering belly dance classes on the Treasure Coast since 2010, with the goal of promoting a state of Global Health and Deep Joy. |
